A Dashain Throwback: 'Aa Bata Aama 2' Dashain Song 'Rato Tika Lagauda Kya Dami Dekhiyo' Revives Childhood Memories

What comes to mind when you think of Dashain? The red tika from your mother's hand, yellow jamara tucked behind your ear, and the lingey and rote swings set up in the village field. The Dashain special song from Aa Bata Aama 2, "Rato Tika Lagauda Kya Dami Dekhiyo," released on Thursday, brings those childhood memories rushing back.

The film's teaser and an earlier song had already crossed 5 million views and dominated YouTube. In this new song, it's a joy to see Paul Shah, Aakash Shrestha, Sigrace Pokharel, Malika Mahat, Nikita Acharya, Rishta Gurung, Bipana and the late Indian actor Pradeep Rawat together on one screen.

Sung by Babul Giri, Rachana Rimal, Ravi Od and Junu Rijal, the song moves from the pain of the migrant worker to the tika and jamara of Dashain, and to characters laughing and swinging on the lingey and rote swings.

Alongside the festive fun, the song also raises a serious question. It doesn't just entertain; it nudges us about the traditions we are slowly losing.

Centered on the sacred bond between mother and son and the story of those working abroad, the film hits theatres nationwide on Asoj 30.
