Elephants in the Fog' Star Pushpa Thing Wins Big in Australia
The critically acclaimed Nepali feature film 'Elephants in the Fog' achieved major international recognition at the 19th Asia Pacific Screen Awards, held on Friday (October 30) in Gold Coast, Australia. Lead actress Pushpa Thing Lama won the prestigious award for Best Performance for her compelling portrayal in the film.
Organized to honor cinematic excellence across the Asia-Pacific region, Pushpa's victory marks a milestone achievement for Nepali cinema on the global stage.
Directed by Abinash Bikram Shah, the movie secured nominations in three major categories: Best Feature Film, Best Director (Abinash Bikram Shah), and Best Performance (Pushpa Thing Lama). Although the film's cast and crew were unable to attend the ceremony in person due to last-minute travel plan changes, Pushpa expressed her deep gratitude to the awards committee, director Shah, and producer Anup Poudel for believing in her to bring the character 'Pirati' to life.
Centered on themes of Nepalese culture and marginalized communities, 'Elephants in the Fog' previously premiered in the 'Un Certain Regard' section at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize. Its latest victory in Australia further solidifies the film's remarkable international festival run.
